The secret of this exceptional Compound or New Western Gin, basing on Steinhart Handcrafted London Dry Gin, with a deliciously bitter, unrivaled balanced aroma, is the masterly maceration with the Canadian Haskap berry.
The Haskap berry is hardly known, because it is very difficult to get. Western Canada, along with a handful of regions in Asia, is one of the very few places in the world where it grows and thrives. It is not only the Haskap berry's sensational bitter-fruity taste that makes this Gin so rare. The Haskap berry is, since December 2018 officially in Europe, also considered a "superfood" containing high anthocyanin and, among other goodnesses, the vitamins A, C, E and iron.
The spirit of adventure and the wilderness of the Canadian steppe blend in this composition from Thomas Steinhart to an overwhelming taste experience. With this virtuoso Compound or New Western Gin the master distiller has undeniably succeeded a masterpiece. The first look alone, the blood-red coloring, a result of the maceration of selected Haskap berries and sophisticated refinement, reveals: the Steinhart Haskap Gin is something exquisite. Whether pure or as "Canadian Sunset" - 1/4 Haskap Gin, 3/4 tonic water, some ice cubes and finally garnished with a grapefruit zest - this treasure is definitely worth trying: the Steinhart Haskap Gin is one of the absolute favorites of our SOMELIO team.
Please note that this Gold-winner at the World Gin Awards 2019 in the category "Best Flavoured Gin", which also was awarded Double Gold at the Stuttgart International Spirits Competition 2018 and which additionally succeeded as "Best Flavoured Gin in Show", is a New Western Gin, not a classic London Dry Gin, like for example the Steinhart Handcrafted London Dry Gin. As EU law as it stands today does not yet officially list Compound or New Western Gin as gin, this product is officially sold in Germany and Europe as Haskap or Maibeer Spirit until the law will be amended.
